These batteries are \u201cdeep-cycle\u201d because they are specially designed for long working lives under conditions of daily charging and discharging. Deep cycle batteries also come in 3 major types: flooded (or wet), gelled, and AGM. Flooded batteries require the regular maintenance of adding ionized\/distilled water to their liquid electrolyte. Despite flooded batteries are cheaper (than gelled or AGM), this regular maintenance and also safety issues in mounting and transportation make them less popular now. Gelled and AGM batteries, on the other hand, are <strong><em>sealed<\/em><\/strong> batteries and do not require any maintenance.
